Day Itinerary

From Rome to Val d'Orcia – Arrival in Montepulciano

Departure from Rome in the morning and arrival in Montepulciano, a medieval village perched between Val d'Orcia and Val di Chiana, famous for Vino Nobile and its historic cellars in the town center. In the company of your guide, you will walk through Renaissance squares, winding uphill streets and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the surrounding hills, with time available for a first gastronomic stop based on your preferences.

Argiletum Tour Suggestion: In Montepulciano we recommend a brief stop at a wine bar in the historic center to taste a glass of Vino Nobile accompanied by Tuscan pecorino cheese and cured meats, or a coffee in Piazza Grande with views of the Renaissance palaces.

Between Montepulciano and Montalcino – The Scenery of Val d'Orcia

Having left Montepulciano, the transfer becomes a true panoramic route. The road crosses Val d'Orcia, recognized by UNESCO for its man-made landscape: fields that change color with the seasons, orderly vineyards, isolated farmhouses and the characteristic cypress-lined avenues along the ridges. Your guide can suggest a photo stop at a particularly scenic point – a row of cypresses, a small country church, a viewpoint over the valley – before continuing toward Montalcino. As you approach the village, the Brunello vineyards begin to surround the road and, at the top of the hill, the walls and towers of the village come into view.

Argiletum Tour Suggestion: If you would like lunch immersed in the landscape, we can book a farmhouse along Val d'Orcia with typical Tuscan menu and views of the vineyards, before reaching Montalcino.

Montalcino – The Home of Brunello

Arrival in Montalcino, home of the famous Brunello di Montalcino. Together with your guide you will be able to explore the historic center, reach the fortress, enjoy the small squares with views over the countryside and spend time in wine bars and typical shops. Free time will allow you to choose whether to focus on wine, local craftsmanship or simply on the atmosphere of the village.

During the day, upon request, it is possible to add:

  • Visit to a winery with wine tasting and local products.
  • Lunch at a winery or farmhouse immersed in the Val d'Orcia countryside.

Argiletum Tour Suggestion: We can select for you a historic family-run winery for a guided tasting of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino, paired with cured meats, cheeses and local extra virgin olive oil (upon request, with supplement).

Return to Rome

In the late afternoon departure from Montalcino and return to Rome by private car, with arrival at your hotel in the evening. You can relax during the return journey, taking in the Tuscan hills that fade toward Lazio.
