Day 1
Morning:
Departure from Rome at the indicated time directly from your hotel with a comfortable private vehicle and dedicated driver. We will cross the wonderful landscapes of Lazio and Umbria, a relaxing and panoramic journey admiring sweet hills, ancient woods, olive groves, and ancient villages nestled in the valleys.
Upon arrival in Assisi, meet with a private guide at the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, located in the plain below the historic center, for an immersive experience of cultural and spiritual visits. We begin with a visit to the evocative Porziuncola, the place where Saint Francis retreated in prayer and where he founded the Franciscan Order.
We continue with a guided walk through the narrow medieval streets of the historic center, with stops at the most iconic places:
- Basilica of San Francesco – a complete visit to the Upper Basilica and Lower Basilica, decorated with the famous frescoes by Giotto and Cimabue.
- Piazza del Comune – the heart of the city, with the Temple of Minerva and the Palazzo dei Priori.
- Basilica of Santa Chiara – dedicated to the spiritual life companion of Saint Francis, it houses the Crucifix that spoke to the Saint.
Around 2:00 PM, lunch at a vineyard a short distance from the Basilica of San Francesco. A gastronomic experience showcasing the excellence of Umbrian products, with strictly local ingredients.
Tasting Menu:
- Selection of 5 local wines from Assisi, including Grechetto and Sagrantino.
- Bruschetta with locally produced extra virgin olive oil.
- Artisanal pecorino and truffle caciotta.
- Lentils from Castelluccio di Norcia or chickpea salad with dried tomatoes.
- Typical Umbrian cured meats and artisanal Costano porchetta.
- Umbrian Torta al Testo, filled with herbs and cured meats.
- Traditional Umbrian sweets, accompanied by a glass of passito.
After lunch, you can relax in the agriturismo garden or take a short walk around. You can enjoy the tranquility of the Umbrian hills or purchase local products.
Afternoon:
In the afternoon, approximately around 4:00/4:30 PM: departure for the return to Rome. Arrival at your hotel.
